Established in 1907 as Asia’s first integrated private sector steel company, Tata Steel Group is among the top global steel companies with an annual crude steel capacity of over 28 million tonnes per annum (MnTPA). It is now the world’s second-most geographically-diversified steel producer, with operations in 26 countries and a commercial presence in over 50 countries.
In 2008, Tata Steel India became the first integrated steel plant in the world, outside Japan, to be awarded the Deming Application Prize 2008 for excellence in Total Quality Management.
Three new Greenfield steel projects in the states of Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh are underway to augment production capacity further by 23 mtpa.
In June 2016, the company sold its UK longs business including Scunthorpe Steel Works (with a capacity of 4.5 MTPA) to Greybull Capital. The company now has three principal facilities in UK and Netherlands with a total steel production capacity of 12.90 mtpa.
In June 2018, the company is planning to raise Rs. 120,000 million by non-convertible debentures to fund some of the new expansion programme in Kalinganagar and Jameshepur.
