When you make DRI through gas based methods, it becomes one of the environment friendly method of making steel. DRI also have higher iron (Fe) content thus making it the preferred raw material for making alloy and special steels for vital sectors like automobile, defence, aviation, space etc. In India, – Essar Steel, JSPL, JSW Ispat, Welspun Maxsteel, TSIL, Monnet Ispat, Rungta Mines, Godavari Power & Ispat, etc., are the larger players who make DRI.
