SLR Metaliks Limited (SML) was incorporated in November 2005 was formed as a joint venture (JV) with Sociedade de Fomento Industrial Private Limited (SFI; 50% stake) and INS Finance & Investment Private Limited (25.94% stake), the remaining being held by group companies of the promoters. The company is engaged in manufacturing and sale of pig iron and has an installed capacity of 2.10 lakh Metric Tonnes Per annum (MTPA) and operates out of its manufacturing facility at Hospet in the Bellary district of Karnataka. The construction of the said facility was completed in August 2011 (FY12) at a total cost of Rs.157 crore funded by a debt of Rs.105 crore and a promoter contribution of Rs.52.0 crore.

However, SML faced delay in the starting of production due to unavailability of iron ore in Karnataka on account of ban on mining of iron ore from Bellary district and surrounding regions as imposed by the Supreme Court of India (SCI) in July 2011. SML commenced commercial operations of the plant in December 2012.
