Incorporated in 1981, as a public sector enterprise of the Government of India National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) is Asia’s largest integrated aluminium complex, encompassing bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting and casting, power generation, rail and port operations. Commissioned during 1985-87, Nalco has emerged to be a star performer in production, export of alumina and aluminium, and more significantly, in propelling a self-sustained growth.
In the financial year 2015-16, the company has clocked a record production of 63.40 lakh tonnes of bauxite and 19.53 lakh tonnes of alumina in fiscal 2015-16.
In April 2016, the company is planning a five lakh tonne per annum aluminium plant in the Chabahar Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Iran through a joint venture (JV) and will feature a smelter and gas based power plant.
In August 2018, the company is planning to invest Rs. 1310 million to set upa alloy wire rod manufacturing facility in Angul in Odisha.
