Refractories are primary materials used in furnace linings made from non metallic minerals. They withstand high pressure and temperature. There are three basic type of refractories acidic, basic and neutral. Indian refractory industry is well matured with competition from global players. India continue to import raw materials from China and to gain cost advantage some of the Indian players have also set up shop in China. However, Indian scene is suppressed because its key consumer steel sector is going through downward cycle. Currently, capacity utilization is just above 60% which is putting pressure on margins.
